VECINA has teamed up with the MPP Laredo Project run by Jones Day to launch a program for pro bono attorneys interested in representing asylum seekers subject to the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), also referred to as the “Remain in Mexico” program. Since the implementation of MPP, thousands of immigrants have been denied entry to the United States and forced to wait in Mexico without access to stable shelter to await court hearings.
You don’t have to be an immigration attorney to make a difference and fight back against this unjust program. In fact, this opportunity is for attorneys with little or no immigration experience!
The MPP Laredo Project will identify clients in need of counsel with cases heard in the San Antonio Immigration Court / Laredo Tent Court. Once you agree to take the case, you will be placed with a VECINA expert mentor to guide you every step of the way.
Current statistics show that less than 2% of asylum seekers subject to MPP have counsel, and they are five times more likely to be denied without a lawyer. Let’s change that together! Sign up below to express interest in participating in our pilot program.
